How difficult is the race? Is it suitable for amateur cyclists?

The Tanzania Cycling Challenge is an intense but rewarding experience, but it is not for the faint-hearted. The route is entirely uphill, with no downhills to offer respite.

While the challenge is open to cyclists of various skill levels, preparation is key. Training consistently and building both endurance and leg strength will significantly enhance your experience and your chances of finishing strong.

The event is not only about speed or competition; it is also about personal achievement, teamwork, and enjoying the breathtaking landscapes along the way.

What is the race route, and can I preview it beforehand?

The Tanzania Cycling Challenge takes you on a breathtaking journey from the stunning shores of Lake Manyara to the summit of the Great Rift Valley Wall. The route is a spectacular uphill climb, offering incredible views.

Participants will receive a GPX file after signing up with elevation profiles, distances, and key waypoints so they can prepare mentally and physically before race day.

What kind of bike should I use for the challenge? Can I rent one locally?

The route is a mix of tarmac and dirt roads, making a gravel bike or mountain bike the best option for this adventure. These bikes offer the durability and stability needed for the varying terrain.

If you do not have a suitable bike or prefer not to travel with one, rentals will be available locally. Reserve early to secure the right size and setup.

What is the prize structure, and how do winners qualify for awards?

There is a $10,000 prize pool, divided equally between male and female participants.

What is the cut-off time for completing the race?

The Tanzania Cycling Challenge is about determination and perseverance, and participants are expected to finish in 4 hours.

Our team is committed to supporting everyone so long as it remains safe to do so, helping riders complete the challenge at their own pace while enjoying the incredible scenery along the way.

Will there be medical or mechanical support on race day?

Yes, both medical and mechanical support will be available throughout the Tanzania Cycling Challenge.

Medical teams will be on hand to address emergencies and health concerns, while mechanical support will be available for bike issues such as punctures, chain problems, or setup issues.

Your safety and ability to complete the challenge are top priorities.

Are spectators allowed at the start or finish line?

Yes. Spectators are warmly encouraged to join both at the start at Lake Manyara and at the finish line atop the Rift Valley Wall.

Having friends, family, and supporters there adds to the energy of the event, and transport will be provided for supporters from the start line to the finish line.
